Where courses take place

Theory and preparation at Deepstop in Schwetzingen, between Heidelberg and Mannheim. The dives are in lakes in the area.

Meeting point: Deepstop in Schwetzingen

On course days we meet at 8:30 at Deepstop. Theory takes place in the training room there, and we set up equipment and fill cylinders on site. There is a bakery and a few places to eat nearby, or bring your own food.

The lakes

The dives are in lakes nearby, regularly Rheinauer See or St. Leon for example. Which lake we pick depends on visibility, weather and what the course is working on, such as depth or navigation.

Some lakes have toilets and warm changing rooms, others only a car park. Entries usually have no steps or ladder. Lake entry fees are not included in the course price.

Why a lake

All courses take place in a lake, including the shallow-water drills, so cold, thick gloves, a drysuit and low visibility are part of training from the start. If you dive cleanly in a cold lake, warm water is easy. It doesn’t work the other way round.

Season

Courses usually run between March and November. When the water gets too cold, concentration drops, and with numb fingers the skills fall apart.

Accommodation

If you are coming from further away, I am happy to suggest a few places to stay nearby.

Available spots are listed on the course dates page. If you have questions about the location, just ask.
