My focus
The team plans its own dives, navigation and return route included. After the course you dive independently instead of following a guide.
GUE Advanced Open Water Diver prepares you for deeper recreational diving. The course covers decompression theory and correct ascents, rescue on land, at the surface and underwater, emergency management, and navigation with compass, guideline and natural features. Nitrox extends bottom time; triox, if you choose it, reduces narcosis and gas density.
The course normally runs over six days with at least eleven dives, including one in reduced ambient light, and at least 48 hours of instruction. Maximum depth is 30 metres, and all dives stay within no-decompression limits. Triox is noted on the certification if at least two dives are made with it.
You can also earn the certification by completing the Navigation, Rescue and Deep Primers individually.
Prerequisites: GUE Open Water Diver, Performance Diver or Fundamentals, followed by at least 15 non-training dives, minimum age 16, and basic life support (BLS) training within the last 24 months. During the course: swim 275 metres in under 14 minutes and 15 metres underwater on a breath hold.
